CONSERVATION ACTIVITIES
Collaborative & Innovative
SNORKELING IN LA JOLLA
Snorkeling and kayaking allow the service member and their participant(s) to be on or in the water. The purpose of this activity is to explore the marine life that is plentiful in the San Diego waters as marine protected areas are abundant and have plentiful marine biodiversity. Many service members may not have come from living in an area in close proximity to an ocean. This gives them a chance to learn about a world they may have not known much with a focus on education and conservation.

SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD DINING
Dining at a sustainable seafood restaurant allows the service member and their participant(s) to explore eating a new species, while becoming educated on the conservation of the fishery. Sustainable seafood restaurants in San Diego do a remarkable job of utilizing local fishermen and fisherwomen by purchasing their daily catch and selling it for their customers. This activity gives the service member and their families a chance to learn about the importance of consuming local catch for the future of certain fish stocks as well as vitality of the ocean. This activity also highlights fish seasonality which in turn educates on fisheries.

WHALE WATCHING/DOLPHIN WATCHING
Whale watching/dolphin watching tours allow the service member and their participant(s) to learn about local species of cetaceans. It is a friendly way for the service member and their families to get up close and personal with these animals without disrupting their habitat or endangering them.
